Sea Urchin Pendant Necklace – Handmade Sterling Silver 925 with Fire Opal – Each Piece Unique
A sterling silver pendant necklace hand carved in wax and cast using the traditional lost wax technique. Inspired by the quiet geometry and natural armour of the sea urchin, the design transforms marine structure into a contemporary wearable form — where texture, light, and stone work in contrast.
The pendant is finished in a deliberately oxidised and polished surface, a treatment that deepens every carved detail and enhances the sense of depth across the form. At its centre sits a 3ct fire opal cabochon (15.2 × 11 mm), alive with shifting internal colour — glowing from within with flashes of red, orange, and gold. The combination of darkened silver and luminous opal creates a strong visual tension, giving the piece presence from every angle.
Suspended on a sterling silver ball and oval bead chain, the necklace sits with weight and intention — a statement piece designed to be worn and noticed.
Each pendant is individually finished by hand, meaning no two pieces ever leave the studio with identical surface movement or oxidisation patterns.

A study in contrast between darkness and light — where oxidised silver amplifies the carved texture and the fire opal introduces movement and internal light. Inspired by marine geometry, the design reinterprets natural defensive structures as something luminous and wearable.

Maker’s Note
“The sea urchin has always fascinated me — its geometry, its quiet armour, the way it sits so still and yet feels so alive. Each pendant begins from the same carved form, but I finish them differently every time. The oxidised surface on this piece was built up by hand to deepen the texture and let the fire opal really come forward.”
