INFO FOR PROTOTYPE IN LOST WAX CARVING

Need a wax prototype before casting?

whatever you're a jewellery designer, a brand developing a new collection, or someone with a vision that need sculpting – I create precision wax prototypes by hand using the ancient lost wax carving technique.

No CAD. No3D printing. Every prototype is hand-carved in my Cornwall studio, giving you organic detail and sculptural quality that digital tools can't replicate.

You'll receive a finished wax prototype ready to send to your chosen casting service – or I can recommend trusted casters if you need one.

Step 1

Tell me what you need

We start with a conversation – by phone, video call, or email, whichever suits you.

Share your idea, reference images, sketches, or even just a description. The more detail you can give me at this stage, the faster we move to carving. But don't worry if your concept is still rough – that's what this step is for.

Step 2

Finalise the Design

To create an accurate prototype, I'll need:

  • Reference images or sketches – photos, drawings, or screenshots of what inspires you
  • Dimensions – height, width, thickness, finger size (for rings), and desired metal weight
  • Gemstones details (if applicable) – size, cut, and type, so I can sculpt the correct setting

Don't have a sketch? I can create design drawings based on your brief. A design fee may apply for this service.

Once we agree on the final design, I'll provide a detailed quote before any carving begins.

step 3

carving & delivery

Timeline: most prototypes take 2-5 weeks to complete. Advance booking is recommended to secure your spot.

Deposit: a 50% deposit is required before carving begins. The balance is due on completion.

Progress updates: Throughout the carving process, I'll send you step-by-step photos and videos so you can see your piece taking shape. Professional images of the finished prototype are included.

Revisions: Minor adjustments during the carving process are part of the service. Significant design changes after the prototype is complete may incur an additional charge per extra working hour.

What you receive: A finished wax prototype, ready to send to your casting service for production in your chosen metal.

Why Hand-carved wax?

CAD software and 3D printers are fast – but they produce a certain "look." Smooth, uniform, predictable.

Hand-carved wax is different. It carries the subtle textures, organic flow, and sculptural depth that only human hands can create. With over 30 years of experience in this technique, I can achieve levels of detail and expression that digital tools simply can't match.

If you want a prototype that feels alive – not manufactured – hand carving is the way to go.
